What is DMSO?

What exactly is DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)

it is a chemical structure of a chemical compound Dimethyl Sulfoxide DMSO.
WHAT is DMSO?
DMSO is short for Dimethyl Sulfoxide. Just as the name implies, it is a sulfur-based natural occurring solution. Actually a byproduct of the paper making process.

DMSO is also a very potent solvent because of its highly polar nature. For lack of better terminology, the DMSO molecule is "thirst". It rapidly absorbs water even that available in the surrounding air.

DMSO is a clear solution with more than a few distinct properties. Most commonly known for the “garlic taste" one experiences when using this medicine. Not to mention the fact that, taken internally, you will smell as well.
Interestingly enough, the smell is specific to that individual. To be more specific, when I take DSMO internally, it's been said that I smell like....tomatoes, silage, and even sardines!  I guess a little odor in exchange for no pain....works for me.

DMSO has been used as a vehicle to reduce swelling and pain in horses, particularly racehorses. Alone or in combination with other drugs either through the skin or intravenously, with startling results.

The chemical itself has been around since the 1800’s. However, DMSO’s medicinal usage wasn’t truly recognized until a young DR. Stanley Jacobs lead a team at Oregon Health & Science University Medical School.

It was learned that DMSO combined with other medicines could be delivered through the skin directly into the bloodstream. Increasing the effectiveness of ingredients when using this solvent. Dr. Jacobs devoted his entire life to studying and treating patients with DMSO.
